One of the responsibilities of management is the provision of facilities for effective teaching and learning within a healthy living environment. The reciprocal relationship between HEALTH and LEARNING makes the school health care delivery an indispensable service in the university. The learning period is a period of intellectual development, emotional growth and physical maturity. The U.H.S provides basic health services to students, staff, dependants, visitors and retirees.

Infrastructure

The main complex is centrally located. The landscape is friendly even to the physically challenged. Ramps were constructed at the various entrances/ exits to allow students confined to wheel chairs easy  accessibility.

The building has 4 waiting lounges, houses the medical information unit, counselling room, pharmacy unit, laboratory wing, dressing room, minor theatre, a four-bed emergency/ recovery room and the administrative unit. A wing of the main hospital building has the public health unit, a seminar room and a counselling room

Services

Mental Health Clinic:- With a Visiting Psychiatrist Wednesday[ 8:30am to 4:00pm.

Surgical out-patient /orthopedic clinic with a Visiting Orthopedic

Surgeon Tuesday [12noon – 3:00pm]

Dental Clinic and Diabetic Clinic, are scheduled to take off in January 2012, the Visiting Consultants have been nominated.
In-patient care:- 20 bed ward, the male and female wings are well demarcated.

Public Health Services:-Immunization, Infant and maternal clinics, Family Planning Services, Control of Infectious and Communicable Diseases -in partnership with the Damien Foundation and Public Health Visits to Faculties (Health posts).

Laboratory Services:- Basic Laboratory services for primary and secondary levels of care.

Medical Social Works Services : For counseling,student support, situational crisis management,referrals, home visits , issues of sex and sexualities.

Visual Care:- UHS provides visual care, free medical eye screening, refractive errors correction through the prescription of glasses and first- aid treatment of eye emergencies

Special Clinics

Data Management/Health Records Services:- Quarterly health reports are forwarded to management reflecting hospital attendance /Utilization Records in the OPD, various Health posts including the Sports Clinic admission/discharge records. Disease pattern and suggestions / interventions are also included in the report.

Pharmaceutical Services for drug prescriptions and counseling

Environmental Health Services; the unit handles  pests/rodents control by fumigating the various halls of residence just before the commencement of each session. The projection is to fumigate the various halls  atleast twice a year .The unit manages the various septic tanks (evacuation of septic tanks] The  management of refuse is currently out-sourced while the unit provides an over-sight function
